Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, often in the workplace and school. It's characterized by feeling drained, detached from work, and experiencing a lack of accomplishment.
Burnout is characterized by feeling ineffective and incapable. So, when you do things in your free time which reinforce your abilities, skills and talents, you’ll contribute to your wellbeing. Find things you love to do and that you’re good at.
The narrative on self-care tends to prescribe slowing down, getting away and being alone. And for some, these might be perfect ways to relax. But also consider what relaxes you, uniquely. If you relax by reading a book, do so. If you relax by hiking, you may spend your relaxation time this way. The key is to consider your own energy levels and define relaxation for yourself—taking action to do what works best for you.
Prioritizing self-care is the most important, manifested in various ways such as sleeping hence completing 7-8 hours sleep each night. An individual may also engage in daily physical exercise, even a short distance walk can improve mood.
